Dino Accoto is Assistant Professor of Industrial Bioengineering at Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma. He received the Laurea degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pisa (cum laude) in 1998, the Diploma in Engineering from the Scuola Sant’Anna (cum laude) in 1999 and the PhD degree in Biomedical Robotics (cum laude) from the Scuola Sant’Anna in 2002.  From 2001 to 2002 he has been Visiting Researcher at Rapid Prototyping Lab of Stanford University (CA), under the supervision of Prof. F. Prinz.

From 2003 to 2007 he has been Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Scuola Sant'Anna, where he carried out his research activity at CRIM (Research Center in Microengineering) coordinated by Prof. Paolo Dario.

Since 2004 he is with the Biomedical Robotics and Biomicrosystems Laboratory.

Research interests

Dino Accoto research focuses on biomechatronic design of bioengineering systems using a multiscale and multiphysics approach, with special attention to biomimetics and embodied intelligence.

Example achievements in this field include:

  • an implantable active drug-delivery systems for the cerebral compartment;
  • low voltage compliant microactuators for minimally invasive surgery tools;
  • novel low voltage, bubble-free electroosmotic pumps;
  • a planar neurorehabilitation robot with high backdriveability;
  • a slip sensor with no moving parts for robotic prosthetic hands;
  • a novel high dexterity locomotion technique for intracorporeal microrobots.

Dino Accoto is the project manager of the European project “EVRYON” (FP7-ICT/FET), focused on the development of a novel design methodology for the development of wearable robots.

Publications

Dino Accoto co-authored 70 scientific papers, 17 of which appeared in international journals. He is also the co-inventor of 9 patents.
